Small businesses shipping a few packages can print and pay for postage online. Larger shippers can apply for a permit imprint and save money with commercial rates. Other convenient postage options are postage meters, precanceled stamps, and custom stamps. USPS and third-party vendors offer a variety of ways to track and pay for postage.

If you're a large volume mailer, using a permit imprint to make postage payments, you don't have to buy postage in advance, reset your meter, or affix stamps. Simply print postage information in the upper right corner of the mailpiece and only pay for postage when mailings are sent.

Permit imprint is the most popular and convenient way to pay for postage, especially for high volume mailings. Instead of using precanceled stamps or a postage meter, the mailer prints postage information in the upper right corner of the mailpiece. This postage block is called an \"indicia.\" Here's a sample of what a permit imprint indicialooks like. The indicia are printed onto each mailpiece.

To use permit imprint, you set up a postage account (called an \"advance deposit account\") at the Post Office or Business Mail Entry Unit where you'll be depositing your mail. When you bring your mailing to the Post Office the total postage is deducted from your account. It's like having a checking account at the Post Office.

Designated for international mail, and showing a small airplane, the January, 2012 $1.05 Scenic America series issue was designated C150. Note that these are not Forever Stamps, which means that when the Postal Service changes its rates, you will need to print postage correction stamps to use with the older stamps you have already printed. This is just as easy as printing regular stamps.

Not all vintage stamps are priced equally, depending on availability and denomination. Be prepared to pay somewhere around 3-4x more for vintage stamps compared to the cost of purchasing current USPS stamps.

If you are going to source and curate stamps yourself, make sure to buy UNUSED stamps. Many stamp dealers sell used stamps because they have value as collectibles, but unfortunately these stamps cannot be used for mailing.

You can skip the long lines at your local post office by ordering two ounce stamps online from Amazon or eBay. Both sell valid US postage stamps. Amazon offers the fastest delivery but stamps cost a little extra. Ebay sells postage stamps at the same price as your local post office but shipping is significantly slower (5-7 days). If speed and convenience is important, we recommend Amazon. If you're in no rush and want to save a little money, we recommend Ebay instead.
